A Trip to Nashville

So we take a rest today from our overwhelming work of finishing the photos for clients, to post a little personal taste into our week. We traveled to Nashville, TN for PPA’s annual conference, Imaging USA. It was fantastic, and I would recommend it. Very enlightening for us to learn from amazing photographers, and to have a vision of where to head Open Light Studio as a business. We drove along with our friend, Nicole Rule, and we stopped (in the midst of the driving abyss that is I-16) in this field of cotton for a few snaps. Obviously, the images with Laura and I both are courtesy of Nicole.

Then we stopped for a late dinner in Chattanooga to see our friend Marcie and meet her fiance, Aaron. (We didn’t mean to form a diagonal line with our setup) By the time we got back on the road, it started to snow (which I think was the first snow I’ve encountered in more than a few years).

And we finally arrived at our home for the few days we would be in Nashville at 11:30pm. We quickly went to sleep, only to wake up 5 hours later for the 7am session at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center/hotel. I took this photo shortly before we left the house; I enjoyed the moon in the far right corner with that burst of orange coming behind the trees. Maybe you all will enjoy it as much as I.

And we end with a shot of the motley crew waiting before we hear Jim Garner on the last day. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I actually was happy, just not really smiling.

Let me end with a word of advice to any photographer searching for inspiration and beauty with their art and imaging: Jose Villa. I was looking forward to hearing him for weeks before we actually left, and he inspired me to make wonderful images that are timeless and full of beauty. So thank you Jose.
